Our focus is to foster awareness of the plight of the Haitian people as well as to share our resources by providing regular financial support to St. Anne’s Parish in Trouin, Haiti.

WHERE IS HAITI?

FRIENDS OF THE PEOPLE OF HAITI was established in 1989 in order to broaden our vision of church by building a relationship of prayer and friendship with the people of St. Anne's Parish in Trouin, Haiti.

FOPH is based in the Quad Cities USA -- specifically, Moline, Illinois -- and governed by an executive council of volunteers elected to handle the business affairs of the not-for-profit corporation. This council consists of a president, first vice-president, second vice-president, treasurer and secretary. As needed, the group asks for volunteers to serve on fundraisers and other committees.

FOPH projects and accomplishments throughout the years include:

  • Conducted Medical Missions mid-1990’s through mid-2000’s
  • Introduced micro-banking for the village to enable seed loans for small business
  • Installed water purification system
  • Built public latrines
  • Built 2 public cisterns to provide clean water for the village
  • Supported a nursing student
  • Built St. Jean Bosco Chapel

With a focus on continuing our hands-on relationships with our friends in Haiti, FOPH sponsors an annual work mission to St. Anne’s each February.
